The best season for planting California natives is during the cool rainy (?) months, fall through spring. We think planting season officially opens on October 15. Unless you are on the immediate coast, planting in shade, or you absolutely have to do it, and are prepared to take precautionary measures, we encourage you to not plant.

You can do other stuff in summer; go to the beach, read a book, take a hike, plan your garden, build all the hardscape features, prepare your soil, cook a barbeque, play bocce or (even) horseshoes, take a roadtrip, learn a language, go fishing or surfing or for that matter surf fishing, go camping (even) with the kids, or depending on your location just tough it out. Need more ideas? Give us a call. Ask for our Summer Recreation Specialist. Ideally, plant fall through spring.

Replace Your Lawn (RYL) – Designer in Residence (DIR) Workshop Series this July. RYL How-To Series begins August 8 with RYL I: Kill the Grass.
