Expert Speaker Series – Bob Allen, Ocotber 30, 2010
Creating a Native Butterfly Garden
Curator of RSABG’s Butterfly Pavilion in Summer of 2010, Professor, photographer, and author Bob Allen shared with us about insects and gardens. The Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden’s Butterfly Pavilion is a large outdoor enclosure planted entirely with native plants that are either caterpillar host plants or nectar sources for native California butterflies. The enclosure hosted hundreds of butterflies that successfully reproduced, which provided visitors the rare treat of seeing butterflies in their egg, caterpillar, chrysalis and adult stages.
